Keeping students and staff as healthy as possible:

Here at the Freeport School District, we take great care to make sure that we keep our schools clean and sanitary.  We use professional/hospital grade “green” cleaning chemicals, and follow proper application procedures as outlined by the manufacturer.  Because of this commitment by our custodial staff, our data shows that we have quite a low number of absences due to illness.

Keeping staff and students healthy is a challenging task with such a large population using our facilities each day.  We are always looking for new and improved ways to cut down on the transmission of germs here at the school district.  Over the summer, the district was offered the opportunity to change out all of our paper towel dispensers from the ones that require touching a bar to dispense paper towels to ones that are touchless.

This offer came with an additional 300’ of paper towel on each roll of paper towels.  The dispensers were provided at no cost to the district and they were installed at no change to the district by the vendor.

We believe that by eliminating the need for every student and staff member to touch the dispenser to get paper towels, we should help in cutting down the number of germs that could be passed on to others.

In order to be very mindful with the tax dollars that we are entrusted with, we are currently consuming the excess stock of the old style paper towels at Freeport High School and Freeport Middle School.  We currently estimate that we will have the old style of paper towels used up around the Christmas Holiday.  During that break, we will then have the vendor come back and swap out the old style dispensers with the new touchless ones.

Hi Greg,

Congrats! Freeport School District # 145 qualified as a Campus Champion in Maintenance and Operations.
