Work Information

Responsible for providing instructional leadership and supervision of Center Elementary School. This includes managing and promoting the educational development of each student and ensuring that all policies and procedures set forth by the Freeport Board of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education are followed accordingly.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that every child is prepared academically and socially for
    the world of today and tomorrow
  • Monitor and supervise the use of Center School’s strategic and
    school improvement plans
  • Align curriculum and instruction to the Common Core Standards
  • Promote a safe and stimulating learning environment through the
    use of Second Step, PBIS and the enforcement of the Student Code of
    Conduct
  • Develop and maintain professional decision making bodies to
    enhance student achievement
  • Provide and promote leadership to support District 145 Initiatives
    and Center’s Objectives.
  • Set high expectations for staff and students to produce their best
    efforts everyday
  • Use multiple data sources as diagnostic tools to assess, identify
    & apply instructional improvement to successfully attain AYP and
    improve student learning
  • Support the atmosphere of teamwork and collaborative culture
    within the building
  • Increase parental participation
Biographical Information

Ms. Danielle Summers began her career in Mattoon, Illinois as a middle school language arts teacher in 1994.  She spent many years as a coach of volleyball, track and cheerleading and taught a few years of physical and health education. Family brought her to Freeport in 1999, where she taught language arts at the Freeport Middle School until 2005. In 2005, Ms. Summers became the district administrative intern at the School Board Office working as an administrator with the Sleezer Youth Home and the ESL program. In 2007, Ms. Summers became the principal of Center Elementary School.

Danielle graduated from Western Illinois University with a Secondary English Education degree and a Physical Education minor and completed her Master’s of Administration degree in 2005 from National Louis University.  

Ms. Summers is a board member of the United Way of Northwest Illinois and member of the Illinois Principal Association.  In October, 2013, Ms. Summers received an Illinois School Board of Education "Those Who Excel" Principal Award of Recognition.  She was nominated by her staff in April 2012.
 
Danielle enjoys traveling, spending time with family and spoiling her niece, two nephews and dachshund, Vegas.
